Mary, Mother of Grace Monastery (1250 Carmel Drive, Lafayette 70501) will host 40 Hours Devotion during the Year of Mercy with public adoration of the Blessed Sacrament after the 10:00 AM Sunday Mass on February 7, as well as after the 6:45 AM Masses on February 8-9. The Blessed Sacrament will be reposed at 4:00 PM each afternoon.
The practice of 40 Hours Devotion originated in Milan about the year 1530. By 1550, both St. Philip Neri and St. Ignatius Loyola had also instituted this practice, especially for the reparation of sin. Carmelite Nuns’ have had a long standing tradition of the 40 hours devotion. In France, 40 hours usually took place the three days before Ash Wednesday, Mardi Gras time.
The Year of Mercy offers us a special opportunity for our 40 Hours devotion at the Monastery this year. We invite you to join us as we pray for an outpouring of Divine Mercy upon all people, that all may come to know Jesus, “the Face of the Father’s mercy”, and the transforming power of His love.
