St. Elizabeth Seton Church (610 Raintree Trail, Lafayette 70507) will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its establishment with 6:00 PM Mass on Monday, September 14. The Mass will be followed by a wine and cheese reception in the Father Lafleur Family Center.
The parish was established on September 14, 1975 by Bishop Gerard L. Frey of Lafayette, to coincide with the canonization of Elizabeth Seton in Rome by Pope Paul VI. This wife, teacher, mother, widow, nun, became the first American-born saint. The first appointed pastor of the parish was the late Fr. Gene Lafleur, for whom the parish's Family Center is named.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder, current pastor, has invited former pastors, parishioners and friends to the upcoming celebration.
