Participate in Fete Dieu du Teche South!

The 9th annual Bayou Teche Eucharistic Procession will head South for a one-time Bayou Extravaganza!

Families and parishes are encouraged to register a boat or gather at one or more of the stops along the procession route. 

The day begins at 8 am with the Mass of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in French by Bishop Douglas Deshotel at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin. Following the Mass there will be a procession with the Blessed Sacrament to the nearby boat landing. 

At 9:30 am boats will depart in the procession up Bayou Teche toward New Iberia. Residents living along the route are encouraged to gather and greet the Blessed Sacrament as it passes near their home. The boat procession will stop at boat landings in the towns along the Teche for Rosary and Benediction (arriving in Baldwin at 11:00 am, Charenton at 12:30 pm, Jeanerette at 2:30 pm and finally the park in New Iberia at about 4:45 pm).

Upon arriving in New Iberia, a foot procession will commence to St. Peter Catholic Church for Solemn Vespers at 5:30 pm and Final Benediction at 6:00 pm. Confession will be heard in mobile units at each of the stops along the way.

Pope Francis has granted participants of Fete Dieu du Teche a Plenary Indulgence, valid on August 15th for those who attend the 8 am French Mass in Franklin, or make the procession by boat, or those who participate in the devotions at one of the many stops along the Teche. Those who are impeded for a serious reason from physically attending the procession may also gain the indulgence by spiritually uniting their prayers and trials. 

The Holy Father asks participants to pray for fidelity to the Christian vocation, for the good of the family, and for priestly and religious vocations. 

If you don't have access to a boat, follow by vehicle and join us at one or all of the stops for the Rosary and Benediction.
