COME MARINATE IN THE WORD! 100 Hours for 100 Years and 300 Lectors for 300 Years!
The Jubilee of the Word Marathon is a unique way to celebrate the Centennial of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and the Tricentennial of the City of Opelousas!
Beginning on Ash Wednesday February 26 at 12:30 PM the Bible will be read publicly cover to cover without pause in front of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas. The Marathon will conclude on the First Sunday of Lent, March 1 at 4:30 PM.
On Ash Wednesday Bishop Michael Jarrell, Opelousas native, will begin reading from the first chapters of Genesis at 12:30 pm and Bishop Douglas Deshotel will read at 4:30 pm. 300 lectors will be needed for 20-minute intervals. Lectors from churches from throughout Acadiana and others interested in reading are encouraged to sign up for a reading slot during the Marathon.
All are encouraged to come listen and Marinate in the Word! Come and participate in a joint birthday celebration for Opelousas and Holy Ghost.
