The Commission for the Pastoral Care of the Elderly The Commission for the Pastoral Care of the Elderly is a Diocesan Commission working in coordination with the Office of Justice and Peace, to promote educational and model programs which assist the elderly within the Diocese of Lafayette. Commission Activities
Serves as an avenue of communication on matters pertaining to the elderly of the Diocese.
Recommends policy on issues of pastoral care and service to the elderly.
Selects a member of the Commission to serve as a representative on the Diocesan Pastoral Council.
Encourages and assists local church parishes with the formulation of programs which reach out to the growing elderly population.
Developed and updates a Survey / Census of Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Centers covering the four regions of the Diocese.
Sponsors the annual "Mass Honoring the Elderly" on the first Sunday of May each year.
Recommends elderly individuals for the Bishop's Service Award in recognition of their continued, productive service to their church and community.
Recommends both elder and youth groups for Certificates of Recognition in appreciation for their on-going service programs for the elderly.
Meets bi-monthly with the Director of the Office of Justice and Peace to share information and suggestions for pastoral services to the elderly
