“We are reminded in the sacred scripture that ‘There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends,’” said Bishop Douglas Deshotel at a special Mass to honor the First Responders of the Diocese of Lafayette on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. Bishop Deshotel went on the thank the First Responders. “I know your service behind the scenes often goes unnoticed because the work you do is mostly the kind which prevents bad things from happening. It often does not make the headlines or the lead story. But for the times you prevented an impaired or speeding driver from hurting himself or others, thank you. For the times you were called to intervene in a fight or domestic dispute to prevent people from hurting each other, thank you. For the times you cite a fire code violation before someone is injured, thank you. For the times you stopped a substance abuse user from driving off and hurting himself or someone else, thank you. And for all those midnight phone calls that you get to rush a sick person or accident victim to the hospital, thank you!” The Blue Mass took place Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette. October 2nd is the Feast Day of the Holy Guardian Angels. Father Chester Arceneaux and Father Louie Richard concelebrated the Mass. After Mass, Acadian Ambulance hosted a reception at Cathedral Hall. Please pray for the continued safety of our law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical professionals and all those who put themselves in harm's way each day to protect and serve others.
