Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel was the main celebrant of a French Mass in memory of Auguste “Nonco” Pelafigue on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Francis Regis Church in Arnaudville. Father Travis Abadie, Pastor of St. John Francis Regis Church, and Father Gary Schexnayder served as concelebrants, with Deacon Kenneth Arnaud assisting.
Immediately following the Mass, everyone attending walked from the church to a reception in the Little Flower Auditorium, the same location where Nonco held his annual Sacred Heart Plays.
In 1953 at the age of 65, Nonco was nominated by the first Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette, Bishop Jules Jeanmard, and received the Papal Decree by Pope Pius XII referring to him as a “REAL CHRISTIAN.”
In 2012, thirty-five years after Nonco’s death, a non-profit corporation was formed. The Nonco Foundation works towards the beatification and canonization of Auguste “Nonco” Pelafigue.
