On August 6, 2018, on the opening day of The Seminarian Seminar at Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat House in Grand Coteau, a special ceremony and Mass was celebrated by Bishop Douglas Deshotel, admitting Brother John Joseph (Payton Bourque) and Seminarian Andrew Killeen into Candidacy for Holy Orders.
Serving as concelebrants were the Director of Vocations, Father Patrick Broussard, Director of Seminarians, Father Kevin Bordelon, Father Cedric Sonnier, Father Mitchell Guidry and Father Michael Champagne.
When a seminarian is admitted to candidacy, he makes a commitment to complete his seminary formation and pursue the priesthood.
Brother John Joseph started at Saint Joseph Seminary College (St. Ben’s) in Covington as a Diocese of Lafayette seminarian in 2011. He is a 2011 graduate of Saint Thomas More High School in Lafayette. He is sponsored by the Community of Jesus Crucified in St. Martinville. Brother John Joseph (Payton Bourque) is the son of Jared and Simone Bourque of Lafayette.
Seminarian Andrew Killeen started at Saint Joseph Seminary College in 2012 as a Diocese of Lafayette seminarian. He is a 2012 graduate of St. Thomas More High School. He is sponsored by St. Pius X Church parish in Lafayette. Seminarian Andrew Killeen is the son of Lisa and Dan Killeen of Lafayette.
Today was the first official day of a seminar for the seminarians. The seminar will conclude on August 8, 2018. Please keep all of our seminarians in your prayers!
