Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Sunday, August 15 for St. Andrew Dung-lac and Companions Catholic Church, the first new church parish established in the Diocese of Lafayette in eighteen years. Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel celebrated Mass in the Vietnamese Community Center on LaFitte Road in Abbeville, with Fr. James Nugyen, founding pastor of the parish, concelebrating. Following the Mass, those in attendance walked to land adjacent to the center, which is the location where the church will be built. St. Andrew Dung-Lac and Companions will be the 122nd church parish in the Diocese of Lafayette.
