Father Donald Davis Bernard is the son of Donald Bernard and Lisa Credeur Bernard, and is sponsored by St. Pius X Parish in Lafayette. Father Bernard says “I started this journey to the priesthood with a strong desire to bring others out of darkness and into the light of Christ. To me, being a priest means living as Christ did-as a light, a sacrifice and a bringer of truth. I’m taking on more than a function. Being a priest is as important as what a priest does.” Father Bernard will celebrate his first Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 16 at St. Pius X Church in Lafayette. A reception will be held in Leonpacher Hall, immediately following. He will be appointed as Parochial Vicar (Associate Pastor) of St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Abbeville.

Father Courville says “What becoming a priest means to me is the ultimate fulfillment of the call of God in the life of a man. The fulfillment of a call, where a young man-or an older man-is called at the service of many families. It’s the giving of himself to bring Jesus to the people of God in their lives, beginning at birth to the end of their lives. “ Father Courville will celebrate two first Masses, the first in English at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Henderson, and the second in Spanish at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16 at St. Jules Catholic Church in Lafayette A reception will be held at Henry Guidry Memorial Park immediately following the Mass in Henderson. He will be appointed as Parochial Vicar of St. Peter Parish in New Iberia and as Sacramental Minister to St. Nicholas Parish in Lydia.
Father Salinger Alcocer-Istre is the son of Linnea Christine Istre and Miguel Alcocer, and is sponsored by Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Lafayette. Father Istre says “A priest does so many important things-he teaches, he preaches, he consoles and he shepherds. A priest is privileged to be invited into both the joys and sorrows of family life. These things are all part of his identity, but at his core, the priest is a man configured to Christ. He is a man ordained to offer sacrifice and to mediate Christ’s life-giving sacraments.” Father Istre will celebrate his first Mass at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 16 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Lafayette. A reception will be held in Knight Hall, immediately following. He will be appointed as Parochial Vicar of St. Peter Catholic Church in Carencro.
